Transferring to a Trac. Fone Android (New Activation)I have once previously activated a new Trac. Fone smartphone, and that activation process was easy. However, that time I set it up with a brand new phone number, rather than transferring my number from an already- active phone. What follows here is an account of my experience with transferring an old number (and remaining minutes) to a brand new Trac.
Fone smartphone. For a variety of reasons, most of which I won’t go into, I just today activated my LG Optimus Dynamic II on Trac. Fone. The only reason for the delay that is relevant here is that I was unable to transfer the number online initially.
Whenever I tried to use “My Account” on Trac. Fone. com, the status of my current phone number showed “porting in.” I was therefore unable to complete the transfer of that number using the online process. I suspect this “porting in” status might be because I switch phones with that number quite often. Even though the most recent switch was three months ago, that switch was from GSM to CDMA, so I am thinking that might be the reason that it still showed porting in. Whatever the case, I was hesitant to force the issue because this is the number that I give out for all of my important contacts, and I didn’t want to risk losing it after a decade.
So I tried working out the “porting in” status with Trac. Fone’s tech support, but only by email. That got me nowhere, so finally today I just decided to take the leap and try the activation by phone instead of online. I was extremely impressed with the results. I have heard some horror stories of how much people had struggled getting Trac.
Fone smartphones activated with their previous phone number, and even more problems getting unused airtime transferred to the new device. Although those issues have been mainly on the “Bring your own phone” side of things, I was still a little nervous.

Today when I called, the entire call was automated, and my total time on the phone was just under five minutes. I did have all my information in front of me, which helped speed it up I’m sure. I needed my current phone number, current serial number, and the serial number of the new phone (the Dynamic II). I had also already added the new phone to the “My Account” feature on Trac. Fone. com, although I don’t know whether this made a difference.

Another factor that most likely did speed up the process is that both the old and the new phone were on the same network (Verizon). I suspect it might take a little longer if you were going from a GSM phone to a new Trac. Fone CDMA Android.

At the end of the call, I was given specific instructions on what to do when the old phone quit working, which I was told could be anywhere from “a few minutes to a few hours, and possibly up to 2. I waited about five minutes after hanging up on the activation call, then tried my old phone. It would not place a call, so I then dialed *2. That took less than thirty seconds, and I heard the message that it was successful. Next I dialed an outbound call on the new phone, and received a welcome message in which I was informed of my new account access PIN (defaulted to the last four digits of my phone number).
My phone was then ready to go. As a final test, I went to the “check balance” page on Trac. Fone’s website and entered my phone number. From there it appears that all of my airtime transferred successfully, and was split into the three “buckets” as I expected. Specifically, my old phone (not a smart phone) shows 3.

The balance check tells me that on my Dynamic II, my remaining balance is “3. Minutes, 3. 05 Text Messages, and 3. Mb of Data.”Interestingly, my old phone shows 2. March 2. 1st. But the balance check from Trac. Fone. com shows my new phone has a service end date of April 1. So it seems I somehow picked up 2. Since my old phone had 2.
Or the 2. 2 could be just a coincidence. If anyone else has had a similar thing happen, I would appreciate hearing about it in the comments so we could compare how the days of service are being transferred. All in all, I am very pleased with how the transfer went. From starting my call to Trac.
